2002 Henschke Shiraz Hill Of Grace

It is hard to explain rare in the wine world. From country to country this can be explained in different ways. In Germany some Rieslings might only have a production level of 25 cases or one barrel, then there is the attempt of trying to share this wine with world of German wine collectors. This can be applied to many areas; Burgundy, California, Italy, etc. Then you have the case when a wine has limited distribution. Which in effect makes a wine rare. The 2002 Hanschke Shiraz Hill of Grace falls under the later. There were 80 bottles imported to the United States. There were a total of 4 bottles brought to the state of Oregon. For Australian wine collectors this is a must have, this is also the perfect gift for the wine collector that has it all. Both the Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator gave this wine 98 points. The wine has 20+ years of life and surely will go up in value.

The following is taken from the Wine Advocate, “One of Australia’s legendary icons is Henschke’s Shiraz Hill of Grace. The 2002 is 100% Shiraz aged 18 months in 100% new French and American oak. It boasts an inky/blue/purple color as well as extraordinary uplifted aromatics of acacia flowers, ground pepper, espresso roast, blackberries, cassis, chocolate, and smoke. This stacked and packed, full-bodied Shiraz possesses formidable concentration, moderately high but silky tannin, and a finish that exceeds one minute. A modern day legend, it should easily evolve for 20-25 years.” RP

2006 Antica Terra

Two weeks ago we were able to premier a new release at our Oregon Pinot Noir Tasting. The wine was the 2006 Antica Terra Pinot Noir. This is the first wine made by Maggie Harrison at Antica Terra. Maggie Harrison moved here from Ventura California where she worked the last 8 years at Sine Qua Non. In brief, Sine Qua Non creates some of the most sought after wines in the country. Robert Parker has crowned multiple wines from this winery with 100 point scores, perfect scores. For the most part, if you are able to find these wines in the secondary market they sometimes sell for two or three times their release price and will offer a life changing experience. This is all important because I believe that the new releases from Antica Terra will have the same following (if they don’t already). Personally, I loved the wine; the dark fruit, integrated tannin, and the reaction my palate had over the four hours I tasted my sample. This is a great wine for the near to mid-term, 5-7 years. This offer is valid until March 31st and there is no guarantee of availability after this date.

The Offer

The wine will be released at the start of April. There is also a reserve bottling called Botanica. I cannot confirm orders for the Botanica. Therefore I will create a list by the order in which I receive requests for the Botanica and confirm once I am given an allocation. Usually pre-sells happen with a 6-pack or case minimum. For this release, I will take single bottle orders.

2006 Antica Terra $45.50

2006 Antica Terra Botanica $62

March 14th Oregon Pinot Noir $16

March 14, 2008
4:30 pmto7:30 pm

In the last four months we have done two Pinot Noir tastings. The first was to look at a series of under the radar producers from Oregon and the second was to compare Pinot Noir made in Oregon to California and France. This Friday’s Tasting will include 6 Oregon Pinot Noirs. Two of the wines were poured at our first Oregon Pinot Noir tasting, surprising most people because of how good they were for not being well known (highlighted with an *). Below you will find 6 wines being poured for $16 along with a bonus pour for $4. In addition to these wines there could be a premier of a 2006 Pinot Noir from an old Oregon Winery, but a new winemaker in Oregon. The wine will not be for sale, but only showcased to highlight a new release at the start of April. Once the bottle arrives, I will update my webpage with specifics.
