Every so often I get a request for a sexy wine. At first, I did not truly understand this concept. Then, about 4 weeks ago, a gentleman said to me, “What is a good wine if I am going to have sex tonight?” That started me thinking about how wines can be sexy or how they can be used to seduce. Over the last couple of months I have created lists of wines to fit certain criteria that I thought would fulfill your needs; the top 5 BBQ wines, top 5 wines for celebrations, or most recently the top five wines to have before dinner. Well to say the least, I have even blushed at a few sign titles that came to mind to fit this tasting’s theme. JT might have brought sexy back, but I am going to try to pick out the wines that can be sexy.

2006 Quinta dos Roques ‘Encruzado’

Beautiful and Mysterious have always been sexy or least I have been told that in the past. A Portuguese white wine made from a rare varietal (The mysterious part). The Encruzado is a light wine that takes on depth in the glass. This is a well integrated and ‘Beautiful’ wine.

2006 Hirsch Pinot Noir Estate

Sometimes the good old fashioned things don’t work, times when you really need to try something new. I am not talking about whips and leather right now. I am talking about trying California Pinot Noir. A wine of Finesse and Power. It shows a medium red color, beautiful berry nose of Raspberry and Blackberry, and has a lingering finish.

2003 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino

First, any wine that includes Casanova in its name has to be a wine of seduction. There are times in which you need to wine and dine your partner. You want a wine that is going to get better and better through dinner and the night. This is a rich wine that starts off with a little tannin, it softens over the next few hours just getting better and better.

2006 Turley Old Vines Zinfandel Sometimes you just need to go with what works. Turley is one of the most sought after Zinfandels in the world and probably the most desired in Portland. Always has a wow factor and with the 2006 vintage Turley is back in stride.

2007 Matello White Blend The wine you can have before dinner, at brunch, or when you are trying to wrap things up (or get things going). With a touch of sweetness this wine will cleanse your palate and is an easy transition to whatever is next…

1986 Chateau Rieussec So you are into different things…How about a 20+ year old wine that gives you everything you desire. This wine will surely create moments of intense thought and conversation. Golden in color, in shows flavors of apricot, peach, and honey. Not overly sweet like many dessert wines. Have by its self or pair with Pecan pie, Crème Brule, or Flan. A mature wine that will age for another 5 years.

Come start your 3-day weekend with a free, drop-in tasting at Garrison’s Fine Wines. A little thank you for all of our customers. We are going to open 3-4 wines just for fun, to get the weekend going. We will start at 5:00 and end when we run out of the wine (probably around 7:30 or so). Best of all, it is free.

Friday Tasting: Chardonnay $13

July 18^th 5:00-8:00 This Friday we visit the world of Chardonnay. It is amazing to see the differences that this wine can have around the world. The wine can be aged in 100% new oak, only in stainless steel, or anywhere between. This is why it is important to have an understanding of which style of Chardonnay you enjoy. The wines this Friday will highlight many different styles, yet all of the wines will be 100% Chardonnay.
