Guardian Cellars by Mark Ryan

Starting with the 2003 vintage Guardian Cellars was launched with only 2 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon. The next year two other wines were added. One being the 2004 Gun Metal that was a stample of Mark Ryan’s own wines. The same level of quality continues in this new project, with the 2005 vintage being named #25 on the Top 100 Wines of the Northwest published by Paul Gregutt of the Seattle Metropolitan Magazine and Wine Enthusiast. Both this wine, the 2005 Guardian Cellars Gun Metal, and the 2006 Guardian Cellars Syrah are being offered from Garrison’s Fine Wines for the first time.

2005 Gun Metal, 70% new French Oak, 20 Months in barrel, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, & 9% Cabernet Franc, $34

Winemaker’s Note: Our 2005 Gun Metal is a fruit bomb of black cherry, marionberry and plum. A hefty blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this wine pairs well with food (our personal favorite pairings include: steak, guacamole, pizza, Doritos…) and is delicious on its own. The nose on our 2005 Gun Metal is redolent of ripe black cherry, licorice, vanilla and mocha.

2006 Syrah, 60% new French Oak, 15 months in barrel, 2% co-fermented Viognier, $29.50

Winemaker’s Note: The nose has hints of spice and meaty aromas mingling with the blackberry. The palette is full of blueberry and bramble fruits with a touch of spice on the finish. The tannins are firm and will allow some aging with this wine.

2004 Mas Romani La Creu Alta

Wine Advocate 97+ “The 2004 La Creu Alta is 60% old-vine Carinena and 40% Grenache from vineyards over 100 years of age. Inky purple, the wine has an ethereal nose of spice box, scorched earth, truffle, graphite, kirsch, and wild blueberries. Already complex on the palate, the wine is plush and silky with impeccable balance and an exceptionally long finish. Drink this hedonistic effort over the next 10-12 years.”

Cedric Bouchard Les Ursules

Cedric Bouchard Roses de Jeanne Champagne

Cedric Bouchard produces Champagnes from two different vineyards. One owned by his father which he labels under Inflorescence (which we carried both of and sold out on New Year’s Eve) and another labeled Roses de Jeanne, made from fruit off his own land. The production level of this wine averages less than 300 cases a year and comes from 30 year old vines. All of his wines are single vineyard, single vintage, and single varietal. Since the reviews, the wines are even harder to find, if not impossible. This offer is for the Cedric Bouchard Roses de Jeanne Les Ursules Blanc de Noirs. Currently the lowest price on wine-searcher is $85. Below you will find my pricing which just makes this better and better.

Wine Advocate 95 points “The Roses de Jeanne Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules may very well be one of the finest Pinot Noir wines of Champagne. Stunning aromatics meld into a finessed, layered expression of Pinot fruit, all wrapped into a silky-textured frame of profound beauty. The wine possesses striking clarity and detail, a fine mousse and an eternal finish. This too is 100% 2006 juice that spent 28 months on its lees and was bottled with no dosage. This bottle was disgorged in July, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018. The explosive, kaleidoscopic Champagnes of Cedric Bouchard are some of the most compelling wines coming out of the region today. Quite simply, this set of new releases left me speechless and literally shaking my head in awe. Readers should do whatever they can to experience these magnificent wines. Bouchard farms just under three hectares of vineyards. There are two ranges; the Inflorescence wines are made from vineyards owned by Bouchard-s father, while the Roses de Jeanne wines are made from vineyards Bouchard owns himself. The vineyards are cropped to yields that would be considered miniscule in any region in the world, but are shockingly low compared to the average in Champagne, where high yields are prevalent. Because of the low yields, the wines reveal a very fine and subtle mousse. The wines are made from hand harvested fruit, crushed by foot and fermented with natural yeasts. Bouchard prefers stainless steel, as he believes the neutrality of steel allows for the maximum amount of expression of his philosophy, which is single-vineyard,single vintage and single-variety bottlings. The wines are neither fined nor filtered and are disgorged with no dosage.”

1-3 bottles: $70 4-8 bottles: $66 9-12 bottles: $62

The wines are net prices and will not receive any further discount, but count towards a case.
